The Dickinson State University Heritage Foundation’s Give Day once again brought together community, alumni, and friends to invest in student scholarships and programs. What began as a nascent idea has flourished into a cornerstone event, with goals and donations growing annually. Over the past four years, the Give Day fundraising target has expanded from $20,000 to $100,000, evidence of the growing impact of the 24-hour giving tradition.
Acting President and DSU HF Executive Director Ty Orton said, “Every dollar raised on Give Day shows how gifts, regardless of size, make a transformative difference in our students’ lives.”
Give Day, held on November 12, utilized creative ideas to get people involved. Donors participated through challenges that ranged from the Young Alumni Challenge—encouraging recent graduates to contribute an amount tied to their graduation year—to the 50 for 50 State Challenge, aimed to gather donations from every U.S. state. Bonus challenges provided additional ways for donors to contribute.
Highlights from the Day’s Events
The HerImpact Challenge raised $5,943.21 (Goal: $5,000), reflecting strong support for women’s initiatives at DSU. The 100 Years of Football Challenge was another major success, bringing in $20,905 (Goal: $5,000), a tribute to DSU’s century-long legacy of football. The New Donor Challenge generated $5,966 (Goal: $5,000), encouraging new participants to join the giving tradition. Altogether, these efforts helped DSU raise an impressive total of $103,278.49 on Give Day, surpassing the DSU HF’s $100,000 goal.
The DSU Heritage Foundation house came alive with activity on Tuesday, as participants came for breakfast and lunch and were served generously donated donuts from Baker Boy and pizza from Papa John’s. Breakfast attendees were given coffee cups donated by Quality Quick Print which featured four impactful women from DSU's history, whose contributions to the campus continue to inspire, even after their passing.
Financial goals were surpassed, but DSU HF Alumni Relations and Event Coordinator Kierra Schneider noted, “The generous contributions made on Give Day go beyond the numbers; they underscore the dedication of the Blue Hawk family to DSU’s current and future students.”
