A Heartfelt Farewell: Steve and Marivern Easton Honored at DSU

A large gathering of friends, colleagues, and supporters came together on Wednesday evening at the Dickinson State University Heritage Foundation house to honor former President Steve Easton (’80) and his wife, Marivern, as they prepare for retirement. The event celebrated the couple’s contributions to Dickinson State University (DSU) and the broader community.

North Dakota University System Chancellor Mark Hagerott, Williston State College President Dr. Bernell Hirning, local legislators, and DSU alumni, faculty, staff, and students were among the attendees, underscoring the positive impact of the Eastons' legacy.

Reflecting on the evening, Steve Easton remarked, “It was fun to see so many supporters of DSU, and it is great to be back in town.” Marivern, former Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program, added, “So many students were here. We truly felt the love and support from those who care about us.”

During his four-and-a-half-year tenure, President Easton guided DSU through pivotal changes, including the addition of new career and technical programs and the institution’s elevation to a master’s degree-granting university. North Dakota Representative Mike Lefor praised Easton’s dedication to student success, while Chancellor Hagerott commended his leadership during challenging times.

In a testament to his enduring commitment to DSU, Easton will moderate a panel during this week’s Theodore Roosevelt Symposium.
